Where a piece appeared in more than one place (an article posted on the Socialist Resistance site and reprinted in International Viewpoint, say), it appears once, and every copy is linked from its page.
The texts
Each page says which kind of text it carries:
- Transcribed from the printed page (46): read off the page images by hand. These are the pre-2001 pieces in the Thornett Reader.
- The publication's own web text (207).
- Talk transcripts (6), corrected by hand against the recording.
- OCR text (96): scanned print, read by machine and not yet proofread. It is here so the words can be found and read; for quotation, go to the printed page, which the archive copy links to.
Bylines
Like many writers on short-staffed papers, Alan Thornett sometimes wrote under other names, so that one person could carry several pieces in an issue. Pieces printed as Bill Peters or Alan Davies are included and marked as such. A piece is included under another name only where the identification has been checked.
The Thornett Reader
The Thornett Reader is a selection of 67 pieces, arranged in eleven parts. Its texts are given as edited for the reader; where that differs from the piece as first published, both are here.
